The whole month of November is Type 1 World Diabetes  month, to support the charity JDRF school will be holding its own TypeOnesie event on Friday 27th November.

Wear your onesie to school for a minimum donation of £1 to go towards funding a special G4 Dexcom glucose monitor and pump for Luke in Year 5 who suffers from Type 1 diabetes.

Parents wearing onesies can drop off  and collect students for a donation too!

The G4 Dexcom provides continuous glucose monitoring and will help Luke manage his diabetes more effectively. The pump costs upwards of £3,000, weekly replacement parts  cost over £60. The benefits of the new pump for Luke are:

  • Continuous glucose level monitoring meaning he will not have to prick his finger for tests as often (currently this is over 15 times per day)
  • An alarm will give early warnings of hypos which will reduce the number of fits that he has
  • The alarm also gives early warning of high glucose levels so extra insulin can be administered to Luke doesn't develop ketones which damage his kidneys.
  • It will also give Luke and his family more peace of mind and reduce their fears.

To find out more about Type 1 Diabetes and how it is very different to Type 2 there will be workshops for students on Thursday 26th November 2015 from 1.00 p.m, if any parents or family would like to attend please contact the office to arrange a convenient time. We'd love to you to find more. You can also find out more by visiting JDRF.

The money that school raises will be matched by JDRF the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation so this is an ideal opportunity to make a difference for Luke

Thanks in advance for your support of this life changing opportunity.
